Every second counts in the case of a fire or medical emergency. Being able to quickly locate the correct address can mean the difference between life and death. Here are some tips to help us help you!

– Reflective numbers are highly recommended
– The numbers on residences should be at least 3 inches high
– Numbers should be placed on, above, or at the side of the main entrance, so that they can be easily detected from the street.
– If your house is over 45ft from roadway, reflective numbers should be on mailbox or post.
– Remember – Your mailman always comes the same way. Fire trucks, ambulances and police cars may come from any direction. Be sure to mark BOTH sides of your mailbox or mark your house number in such a way that it may be easily seen, no matter which direction they are approaching.
Note that fancy numbers or numbers that are spelled out may be aesthetically pleasing but are very difficult to read from the street.

Smoke Detector Program

The Broadalbin-Kennyetto Fire Company Inc. partnered with the American Red Cross is proud to offer a free smoke detector program for residents who need help paying for a smoke detector and/or battery. This program is offered to families with children and/or seniors who are low-income and reside in single dwellings living within our fire district. This program is free of charge to our residents. We will come and install up to 3 smoke detectors, check any detectors you have at your home and inform you if you have a sufficient amount of smoke detectors in your home.

A smoke detector is the first line of defense in saving lives. The most common cause of death during a home fire is not from the fire itself, but from the toxic smoke and gases released during a fire. These products of combustion often render victims unconscious or disoriented, leaving them unable to react, especially during the sleeping hours.

The Broadalbin-Kennyetto Fire Company Smoke Detector Program is funded by donations and partnered with The American Red Cross. If you have any questions about this program, please contact the Fire Company at 518-883-3611.
