MAYDAY TACTICAL TRAINING
The Broadalbin-Kennyetto Fire Company conducted training on Monday, August 19, 2019 at the Broadalbin-Perth High School. BKFC members discussed logistics and procedures in the event that a firefighter is in need of assistance.
A series of scenarios were played out where the Incident Commander follows the protocol for a Mayday, then assembles the RIT (Rapid Intervention Team) to find and rescue the individual(s). An incident requires a PAR (Personnel Accountability Report) to be sure every person that enters a structure is accounted for.
Other topics like coordinating with additional response teams providing Mutual Aid from neighboring departments and controlling radio traffic were addressed.

THE LANDING ZONE
[Monday, June 3, 2019]
The Broadalbin-Kennyetto Fire Company hosted a training to share vital safety guidelines with those that may be involved in ground support with an air medical transport. LifeNet of New York provided an informational presentation on their aircraft, flight crew and their requirements for LZ (Landing Zone) set-up.
Flight Medic Derek Thoman gave classroom instruction stressing the high level of safety designed into their systems. This portion of the presentation was followed by a visit from the LifeNet 7-2 in-service flight crew from Glen, NY. Flight Nurse Lisa Kettunen explained some of the peculiarities with the service. She also described how, in addition to the Pilot, the Flight Crew always consists of a Flight Paramedic and a Flight Nurse. They are, in essence, bringing the Emergency Room and the majority of its capabilities to the victim.
The rapid transport to a high-level hospital facility is the secondary function of the team. Proper location and LZ set-up is the responsibility of the local fire department, and the safety of the Flight Crew and patient is directly affected by the LZ.
Members of the Perth Volunteer Fire Company joined the Broadalbin-Kennyetto Fire Co. for this training.

The Broadalbin-Kennyetto Fire Company conducted “Hoseline Stretching and Advancment” training on Monday, May 6th, at the firehouse.
Stretching hoselines refers to uncharged lines. Hoseline advancement is the movement of charged lines. A firefighting crew must get water on a fire as quickly as possible. Getting the hoseline from the hosebed on an engine to its most effective position to attack a fire is imperative and a skill that must be taught and practiced regularly to ensure the responders are incident-ready.
